- Michael Sussmann faced trial over FBI tip on Trump
- Former Perkins Coie partner has Democratic party
Michael Sussmann, a prominent cybersecurity attorney who last year was acquitted of lying to the FBI, has joined Fenwick & West as a partner in Washington, DC, the firm said Monday.
Sussmann’s move to the tech-focused law firm comes nearly a year after a federal jury in Washington cleared him of making a materially false statement to the federal agency.
The former Perkins Coie partner was working with Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign when he came forward with a faulty tip on then-candidate Donald Trump weeks before the election. Sussmann was accused of lying to the FBI about the identity of his client in communications with the FBI’s then-general counsel.
Sussmann resigned from the firm Perkins Coie immediately after being hit with a one-count indictment in September 2021. Despite “being falsely accused, I am relieved that justice ultimately prevailed in this case,” Sussmann said after the jury verdict last May.
“Fenwick’s reputation for excellence and its track record with some of the biggest global innovators made joining the firm a natural choice,” Sussmann said in a statement Monday. “I am thrilled to team with such a respected group of partners and associates, including its impressive privacy and cybersecurity experts.”
