Government Climate Reporting Rules Seek Global Compatibility

The body that sets global government accounting standards issued draft rules for climate reporting Thursday, closely modeled on those used by private companies.

The International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board asked for public comments on the draft reporting rules by Feb. 28 and expects to issue a final standard by the end of 2025. To ensure consistent reporting for investors, it said the draft “builds on” climate reporting rules published by the International Sustainability Standards Board in June 2023, which take effect for private firms this fiscal year.
