Governor Signs Virginia Sick Leave Bill, Vetoes Menopause Bias

Virginia will require employers to provide their workers with paid time off for short-term sicknesses and safety-related needs, under legislation Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D) signed into law Wednesday.

The legislation (HB 5) will ensure workers can earn and use up to 40 hours annually of paid sick time. Spanberger signed the measure originally passed in March after state lawmakers rejected her proposed changes that would have exempted airline pilots and flight attendants.
