McCarter & English Fees, Malpractice Suit Heads to Trial (1)

McCarter & English is entitled to some unpaid fees from a former client, while the client can proceed with its legal malpractice claim against the firm, a federal district court said.

The “heated dispute” arose from McCarter’s representation of Jarrow Formulas in a trial in Kentucky “that resulted in a multi-million-dollar verdict against it,” Judge Michael P. Shea of the District of Connecticut said Monday.

Jarrow fired McCarter after a jury found that the company willfully misappropriated trade secrets, the court said.
