New York’s LIRR Trains Set to Restart Tuesday After Strike Deal

New York City’s transit system and Long Island Rail Road workers reached a potential labor agreement, ending a historic strike that suspended service on the largest commuter line in the US.

The tentative deal between the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, a state agency that oversees the city’s subway, bus and commuter rail lines, and five unions on wage increases, was announced by Governor Kathy Hochul late Monday.

Some LIRR service will resume at 12 p.m. Tuesday with trains running on the system’s four main branches: Port Washington, Huntington, Babylon and Ronkonkoma. Full service is expected to return across the system ...
