Bipartisan Federal Paid Leave Proposal Imminent, Lawmaker Says

A bipartisan House working group’s long-awaited legislative framework to harmonize the existing patchwork of state paid leave laws is due to arrive in the next few weeks, according to a Democratic lawmaker helming the effort.

Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-Pa.), co-chair of the group on paid leave policy, said in an interview with Bloomberg Law that policy guidelines to shape legislative text should be released before the end of the year. Options on the table include expanding a tax credit for employers that offer paid leave and encouraging more public-private partnerships in the insurance space in the states, she said.
