McKool Smith Hired by Texas to Sue Bristol-Myers and Sanofi

Nov. 3, 2025, 10:33 PM UTC

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) intends to sue Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. and Sanofi-Aventis US for deceptively marketing the prescription antiplatelet medication Plavix.

Paxton retained McKool Smith PC and Lanier Law Firm PC to handle the litigation, according to contracts Bloomberg Law obtained Monday through a public records request.

Paxton is returning to the firms for help after McKool Smith took on Meta in a lawsuit that brought Texas $1.4 billion through a settlement with Facebook’s owner for misuse of users’ facial recognition data. The Lanier firm has contracts with Texas in suits against Google and 3M.
