Tax preparers would face minimum requirements and IRS regulations under a bipartisan proposal by Senate Finance Committee Chair Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) and ranking member Ron Wyden (D-Ore.).
The discussion draft and summary released Thursday also includes dozens of other fixes to long-running tax administration issues, including some that lawmakers have floated in previous bills. Tax professionals and taxpayer advocates are praising the proposal, saying passage would be a major step toward improving taxpayer experiences.
