Duke University’s $2.35 Million Pension Accord Gets Thumbs Up

Duke University received initial approval for a $2.35 million class settlement aimed at resolving litigation by a retiree who says her pension benefits were shortchanged because of the school’s flawed calculations.

The agreement, which represents about 18% of the case’s estimated damages, is expected to provide an average boost of about $14 to the monthly payments of more than 700 retirees and beneficiaries who began receiving certain optional pension formats between 2017 and 2023.
