EEOC Top Attorney Advanced by Panel After Prior Block (Correct)

The Senate’s top labor panel again advanced Karla Gilbride’s nomination to become the top lawyer at the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission after a Republican senator blocked her confirmation late last year.

The Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee voted 12-9 on Gilbride’s nomination to fill the general counsel role at the agency, which has been empty since March 2021. Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine.) offered the sole Republican vote in approval.

While Gilbride’s nomination was voted out of the same committee last year, the full chamber didn’t vote on her confirmation, leading President Joe Biden to renominate her last month. ...
