The sprawling House-passed reconciliation bill faces its next test as Senate Republicans look to soften the measure’s swift repeals of tax credits for clean energy projects.
The bill’s other energy provisions — including to expedite permitting for drilling and expand oil and gas leasing on federal land — have broad support in the Senate. But key senators warned repeals of certain tax credits enacted by Democrats in 2022 would derail clean energy investments that have mostly benefited GOP-controlled districts.
