FERC to Issue Order on Building Data Centers Beside Power Plants

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will issue a 100-page order Thursday clarifying terms under which grid operator PJM and generators can co-locate data centers with power plants, Chairman Laura Swett says in monthly meeting.

  • Grid operator PJM Interconnection will need to respond within 30 days with its full range of options to meet data center demand if they are flexible or build their own supplies
  • PJM also ordered to include new transmission contract services, including non-firm service that can be disrupted
