A federal judge on Monday allowed two Ohioans to intervene in a lawsuit over the 2023 trail derailment in East Palestine, which could at minimum extend the time it takes to rule on a pending $310 million settlement between the federal government and Norfolk Southern Corp.

Judge John R. Adams said the two residents who live near the derailment site meet the requirements needed to intervene in the case.
