SEC Climate Rules Will Consume C-Suite, GOP Commissioner Warns

The SEC’s upcoming climate disclosure rules will force companies to present the environment as a top priority to investors, discouraging executives from emphasizing other business challenges and opportunities, agency Commissioner Hester Peirce said.

A company should be able to give shareholders its own picture of its business through the eyes of its management, the Republican said Wednesday. The SEC is working to finalize rules as soon as next month that would require companies to report their greenhouse gas emissions and make other disclosures about how climate change affects their businesses.
