The US Energy Department illegally failed to preserve records related to its Climate Working Group as members of the advisory committee and agency officials used their personal emails for correspondence, an environmental group alleged Tuesday.

The complaint filed in the US District Court for the District of Columbia accused Energy Secretary Chris Wright of violating the Federal Records Act by not ensuring that the archivist of the US is aware of these communications—a requirement considering that the CWG develops policy recommendations.
