Trump’s Steel Mill Emissions Exemption Targeted in New Lawsuit

Environmental groups said the Trump administration unlawfully exempted nearly a dozen steel mills from federal air pollution standards, as these facilities have the technological capability to reduce emissions.

The Clean Air Act doesn’t grant the president or the Environmental Protection Agency the authority to grant “sweeping exemptions” to regulated coke oven batteries and battery stacks, groups said in a complaint filed Monday in the US District Court for the District of Columbia.

The lawsuit targets a proclamation issued by President Donald Trump in November that exempted all coke plants from stricter emission standards passed under President Joe Biden.
