Businesses Push for Hydrogen Perks in EU Energy Tax Overhaul

A trade association representing European businesses is asking for favorable treatment for hydrogen made from fossil fuels in a revision of an EU energy taxation bill.

In a letter addressed to the Danish finance minister, who currently presides over the council of EU finance ministers, BusinessEurope wrote that the bill should apply a temporary 0% or near 0% tax rate to blue hydrogen, the term used for hydrogen made from fossil fuels.

That would put it at the same rate as renewable hydrogen. Hydrogen made from fossil fuels has higher emissions, and is currently put in a category of fuels ...
