Two Massachusetts sanctuary cities lost their bid to pause President Donald Trump’s orders that eliminate funding for localities that reject cooperation with federal immigration agencies.
Chelsea and Somerville, Mass., haven’t demonstrated a likelihood of suffering imminent and irreparable harm, said Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton of the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts in a Thursday order. And the plaintiffs haven’t shown a strong likelihood that they can prove “the conditions imposed by the subject orders and directives would violate a constitutional limitation,” Gorton said, rejecting their motion for a preliminary injunction.
