Oklahoma Lowers Tipped Minimum Wage to Equal Federal Rate (1)

Oklahoma’s tipped minimum wage will decrease from its current rate under state law to equal the federal rate of $2.13, under a bill that will go into effect Nov. 1. Most Oklahoma employers are exempt from the state minimum wage law and covered instead by the federal Fair Labor Standards Act.

Oklahoma’s minimum wage law calculates the tipped minimum wage as 50% of the state minimum wage. Since the state minimum wage for most employers must equal the federal minimum wage, which is $7.25, Oklahoma’s effective tipped minimum wage is $3.63 for employers who are subject to the law.
