Trump Order on Transgender Youth Care Paused by Another Judge

Another federal judge has temporarily suspended President Donald Trump’s executive order to pull funding from health-care providers who offer gender-affirming care for people 18-and-younger.

Trump’s order unlawfully impedes on Congress’ duty to appropriate funds under the separation of powers, said Judge Lauren J. King for the US District Court for the Western District of Washington. The order unconstitutionally aims to expand the scope of criminalized conduct under a federal statute concerning genital mutilation, she said in her Sunday opinion explaining why she issued a temporary restraining order on Feb. 14.
