Volkswagen Steps Away From UAW Negotiations, Gives Final Offer

Volkswagen Group of America provided the union representing thousands of workers at a Tennessee plant with a “final contract offer” after more than a year of negotiations, effectively daring the UAW to refuse and go on strike.

The German automaker announced it’s no longer engaging in bargaining with the United Auto Workers and that it’s “now up to” the union whether the contract proposal will go to employees. The move raises the possibility of a strike among the 4,300 workers at the Chattanooga, Tenn. plant.
