Wake Up Call: McCarter & English Adds 10 From Burns & Levinson

  • McCarter & English added 10 lawyers and nine staff members from Burns & Levinson in Boston, the firm announced Monday. The new hires include eight partners, two special counsel, and an associate joining the firm’s Trust, Estates & Private Clients, Real Estate, and Business Litigation practices. This announcement follows the news that Burns & Levinson is prepping to wind down operations.
  • Mariel Colón spent several years working as a defense attorney for notorious drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán. Now she’s launching her music career under the stage name “Mariel La Abogada,” or Mariel, the Lawyer. (Associated Press)
  • Cozen O’Connor unanimously re-elected Michael Heller to a fourth term as CEO, the Philadelphia-based law firm announced Monday. Heller joined the firm in 1994 as its first transactional lawyer. Since taking over as CEO in 2013, the firm has grown its head count by almost 70% and revenue by 110% and has been recognized as one of the top 100 law firms globally.

  • Jackie Cook joined Honigman as partner in its real estate practice group in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. She joins from Novara, Tesija, Catenacci, McDonald & Baas.
  • Rajiv Dharnidharka and Jeanette Barzelay joined Foley & Lardner as partners in its business litigation & dispute practice and innovative technology sector in San Francisco. They join from DLA Piper.
  • Sarah Harrington will join Covington as partner in its appellate and Supreme Court practice in Washington on Dec. 1.
  • Indira Sharma joined Locke Lord as a partner in the litigation practice group in Washington. She joins from Saul Ewing.
  • Vinita Sithapathy joined Mayer Brown as a partner in its corporate & securities practice in New York. She joins from Freshfields.
  • Sebastien Bonneau joined McDermott Will & Emery as partner in its transactions practice group in London.
  • Michael Charles Brown joined Quarles & Brady as a partner in the firm’s litigation & disputes resolution practice group in Phoenix.
  • Jeff Westcott rejoined Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld as its director of practice technology and AI innovation in London.
  • Ben Morgan joined Squire Patton Boggs as a partner in its global corporate practice in London. He joins from Goodwin Procter.
