Anthropic Fears Lead to Proposed Ban on AI Killer Robots, Spying

The US military’s autonomous weapons and artificial intelligence would need to be designed and deployed with commanders exercising “ultimate human responsibility” over the use of lethal force, under the Senate’s draft defense authorization bill.

The measure essentially bans the use of AI or autonomous technology to launch nuclear weapons or to apply lethal force “without incorporation of appropriate levels of human judgment,” according to the bill text. The bill also would ban use of the technology to monitor, track, profile or target individuals in the US.
