Agencies Target Summer 2026 for Short-Term Health Plans Rule

The Trump administration plans to release a proposed rule expanding the maximum length of short-term health plans in summer 2026, a trio of agencies told a Texas federal court Thursday.

Short-term, limited-duration insurance plans are restricted to four months under a Biden administration rule that reversed an expansion President Donald Trump implemented in his first term. The plans are not required to follow consumer guardrails under the Affordable Care Act, including covering pre-existing conditions or essential health benefits.
