A draft risk evaluation released Monday by the EPA is inviting public comments on findings that a chemical used to make tires and other rubber products presents an unreasonable risk of injury to human health.
The manufacture of 1,3-butadiene and its use to make adhesives, sealants, automotive, and other products contribute to the unreasonable risk, according to the Environmental Protection Agency’s draft analysis. Workers can be exposed to the chemical when making those products or in other ways in the workplace, EPA said.
