Former Senator Ben Sasse Says He Has Terminal Pancreatic Cancer

Ben Sasse, the former Republican senator from Nebraska, disclosed that last week he was diagnosed with metastasized, stage-four pancreatic cancer.

“Advanced pancreatic is nasty stuff; it’s a death sentence,” the 53-year-old wrote in a post on X. “But I already had a death sentence before last week too — we all do.”

Sasse served in the Senate from 2015 to 2023 but resigned to become president of the University of Florida. He then announced he was leaving that post in July 2024 to spend time with his children and his ailing wife, who had been diagnosed with epilepsy.
