Italy Working on Fuel Tax Cut Extension, Official Says

Giorgia Meloni’s government is working on an extension of a fuel tax cut it approved last month, according to an Italian official, as the premier hopes to blunt the economic impact of the Iran war.

The premier is in close contact with Finance Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti to earmark the necessary resources and outline technical aspects, the official said.

Last month, the Italian government approved a €0.25 ($0.29) per liter reduction in fuel levies as part of a broader package of measures taken as an emergency backstop against soaring energy prices. The temporary measure is set to expire April 7. ...
