Kennedy Center Subpoenaed in $344 Million Carlyle Group Case

The pension fund challenging a $344 million payout from Carlyle Group Inc. to its founders has subpoenaed the Kennedy Center for information on its former board members, including one linked to Justice Clarence Thomas.

The subpoena disclosed this week seeks documents and communications since 2010 about Carlyle directors Anthony Welters and Janet Hill, “including but not limited to” files shedding light on their connections to Carlyle co-founder David Rubenstein.

Welters is a businessman whose financial ties to Thomas have drawn public scrutiny. Hill, who died in 2022, was the mother of retired basketball great Grant Hill. ...
