McIver Appeals Judge’s Decision to Let ICE Charges Move Forward

New Jersey Rep. LaMonica McIver filed an appeal Monday after a federal judge rejected her bid to dismiss charges connected to an incident at an immigration detention facility earlier this year.

The House Democrat, who was elected late last year to replace late Rep. Donald Payne Jr. (D-N.J.), was previously indicted for allegedly “forcibly impeding and interfering with federal officers,” then-US Attorney Alina Habba announced in June. Federal district Judge Jamel K. Semper, who was appointed by President Joe Biden, last month partially denied McIver’s effort to dismiss the charges.
