New York ‘Detransitioner’ Wins $2 Million Malpractice Verdict

A New York jury awarded $2 million to a woman who sued her medical providers for malpractice in connection with gender-affirming care she received as a minor.

The Jan. 30 verdict for the “detransitioner"—the term used for individuals who come to regret receiving care to change their outward appearance to conform with their then-perceived gender identity—follows the first ever trial of such a case.

The result may give new energy to opponents of gender-affirming treatments for minors.
