South Carolina Declares Seven-Month Measles Outbreak Has Ended

South Carolina says its measles outbreak, the largest in the US in decades, has finally ended.

The South Carolina Department of Public Health said there were no new cases reported on Monday, reaching a point where no infections had been transmitted in 42 days, which is twice the virus’s incubation period.

Since October, the state had recorded 997 infections, more than the 762 reported in a Texas outbreak last year. Only 26 of the South Carolina cases were in people confirmed to be fully vaccinated against measles.
