President Donald Trump’s pick to serve as watchdog over the nation’s top health agency came under fire Wednesday during his nomination hearing over past efforts to rein in reproductive care and allegations of attacks on political opponents.
Sen. Ron Wyden (Ore.), the Senate Finance Committee’s top Democrat, described Thomas Bell, Trump’s pick to lead the Office of Inspector General over the US Department of Health and Human Services, as “a dangerous nominee” and as someone who has “spent his career running smear campaigns, including heading up a witch hunt against Planned Parenthood under special House committee.”
