Vinson & Elkins Sued for Malpractice Over Texas Real Estate Deal

A Japanese forestry company’s US arm has accused Vinson & Elkins of legal malpractice, alleging the Big Law firm botched contractual language in a major real estate deal in Texas.

Sumitomo Forestry America Inc. and its affiliate, SFA JPI Top Holdings LLC, filed a lawsuit against the firm June 1 in Dallas County district court, seeking to compel arbitration over claims that the firm’s negligence cost it more than $30 million.
