Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani’s former interpreter Ippei Mizuhara was sentenced on Thursday to four years and nine months in a Southern California prison for stealing $17 million from the baseball phenomenon.
Mizuhara’s sentence by a federal judge is at the bottom of the range recommended by sentencing guidelines but far exceeds the 18 month sentence his lawyer requested. It came after a roughly 90 minute hearing during which Mizuhara spoke an apology before the judge.
