Magellan Financial Defeats Ex-Worker’s Race Bias Claims at Trial

An Arizona federal jury cleared Magellan Financial & Insurance Services of allegations that it demoted and terminated a Mexican American former employee based on his race and heritage.

Michael Ruiz didn’t provide evidence that the financial services company created a hostile work environment and discriminated against him, according to the May 29 verdict at the US District Court for the District of Arizona.

The jury’s decision came after a seven-day trial in the case, which Ruiz brought in 2023 under Section 1981 of the 1866 Civil Rights Act and Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
