NBC News Eliminates 150 Jobs Before Cable Networks Spinoff

Comcast Corp.’s NBC News division is letting go 150 people, fallout from the company’s plans to spin off some of its struggling cable channels.

The cuts, representing about 2% of the news division staff, began Wednesday and are the result of efforts to trim costs before the spinoff, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The parent of NBCUniversal, Comcast said in 2024 it planned to divest CNBC, MSNBC, USA Network and other cable channels into a separate company, later named Versant. The spinoff is expected to be completed this year. After the split, Comcast will still have ...
