Southwest Flight Attendants Seek to Halt Hiring Until Max Flies

The union representing Southwest Airlines Co. flight attendants has asked the carrier to put off hiring new workers until Boeing Co.’s grounded 737 Max resumes commercial flights, saying existing employees need all the work they can get.

The flying ban that began in March has forced the cancellation of thousands of Southwest flights and taken a “significant financial toll” on flight attendants, the Transport Workers Union Local 556 said in a letter to Southwest Chief Executive Officer Gary Kelly and Sonya Lacore, vice president of in-flight operations.
