BGOV Bill Analysis: H.R. 2056, D.C. ‘Sanctuary’ City Law (1)

Any policies issued by Washington, D.C., that limit local agencies from cooperating with federal immigration authorities would be nullified under an amended version of H.R. 2056.

The measure specifically would prohibit the District’s government from issuing any statute, ordinance, or policy that generally restricts D.C. officials from exchanging information on an individual’s citizenship or immigration status, or from complying with a lawful detainer issued by US Immigration and Customs and Enforcement.
