Chicago Border Patrol Shooting Evidence Ordered to Be Released

A federal judge said Friday that attorneys could publicly release a wide range of evidence related to Border Patrol’s shooting of a Chicago woman last fall.

While prosecutors previously said they wouldn’t oppose modifying a protective order such that body-worn camera footage and some other materials could be disclosed, they argued releasing certain text messages from Marimar Martinez’s shooter, Charles Exum, could needlessly harm his reputation.

Judge Georgia Alexakis of the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois rejected that logic, saying the government hasn’t seemed nearly as concerned about harming Martinez’s reputation. After the shooting, the Trump ...
