Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has asked for Internal Revenue Service agents to help with immigration enforcement as President Donald Trump’s administration seeks to carry out mass deportations.
Noem wrote to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Friday, asking him to designate IRS agents to be deputized to assist with deportations and investigations of human trafficking, smuggling, and illegal hiring practices.
The request highlights how the Trump administration’s laser focus on immigration enforcement is shifting resources from other government functions.
