Trump Policies on Migrant Child Custody Spur Senator’s Review

A key Democratic senator moved to expand an inquiry into the government’s treatment of migrant children, who have faced ballooning time in custody following a Trump administration policy enhancing sponsorship vetting requirements.

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), the top Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee, asked Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy on Tuesday to provide records on conditions for unaccompanied migrant children held by the department’s refugee office, including reported instances of abuse and increased time in custody.
