Patients’ Advance WakeMed Lawsuit Over Data Sharing with Meta

North Carolina-based WakeMed Health & Hospitals must face a proposed class action alleging it shared personal and health information of patients with Meta Platforms Inc. without their knowledge or consent.

The lawsuit is part of a surge in litigation against health care providers over their use of tracking technologies on patient portals and other webpages.

Plaintiffs Trace Weddle, Linda Matthiae, and Kim Naugle adequately stated claims for common-law negligence, breach of implied contract, and breach of fiduciary duty, Judge Adam M. Conrad of the North Carolina Superior Court, Wake County, said Monday.
