A complaint challenging prescription drug costs under Wells Fargo & Co.’s employee health plan builds on arguments made in a novel lawsuit pending against Johnson & Johnson, yet the additions don’t necessarily mean a superior outcome.

Former employees on July 30 accused the banking giant of breaching its fiduciary duties by overpaying for drugs through its contract with Express Scripts, one of the nation’s largest pharmacy benefit managers. PBMs manage the drug benefits of health insurance plans, and have come under intense scrutiny from state and federal regulators and lawmakers.
