A group of moderate House Republicans on Friday urged Senate leaders from both parties to help negotiate a broadly acceptable deal to address the impending expiration of health care subsidies, saying failure to do so “would risk real harm to those we represent.”
The 13 House Republicans’ public plea, in a letter they co-signed with 19 House Democrats, signals support among some Republicans to resolve Democrats’ core demand in the 43-day government shutdown that ended this week. Most of the Republicans who signed the letter face competitive reelections next year.
