President Donald Trump’s iron grip on the House GOP will be tested Thursday in a series of votes focusing on health care, government spending and an attempt to override vetoes he issued late last month.

Cracks are beginning to form in the deference that House Republicans had shown the president during his first year back in office.

Swing-district Republicans are increasingly nervous about the contests they face in the 2026 midterm elections. Trump has also alienated some conservative allies over his handling of the release of files related to the late disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
