Carney Sees Progress in Trade Talks Between US and Canada

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he hopes to secure a commercial and security agreement soon with US President Donald Trump, though he tamped down expectations that a deal will be ready in time for the Group of Seven summit in a few days.

“We’re having intensive discussions in real time,” Carney said in an interview in French with Radio-Canada, adding that there is a “good relationship” with Trump. “But there is no agreement yet for signature.” There are major issues on which the countries can cooperate, including in the aluminum, aerospace and defense sectors, he added.
