Germany Defends Streaming Law After US Cries Trade Deal Foul (1)

Germany pushed back against US criticism of a draft law that would force American streaming services to invest more into local film production, saying the measure complies with the trade deal between the US and the European Union.

President Donald Trump’s top trade representative, Jamieson Greer, lambasted the planned legislation on Thursday as a “tax” that would treat US companies as a “piggy bank” to finance protectionist measures. The plan is discriminatory and a violation of last year’s EU-US deal, he said.
