GOP-Held Senate Splits From Trump in Move to End Brazil Tariffs

A handful of Republican senators joined with Democrats to pass legislation aimed at canceling Donald Trump’s tariffs on Brazil, underscoring a fracture in the president’s party on a signature economic issue.

The 52-48 vote Tuesday won’t lead to a swift end to the tariffs since the measure still must pass the House — which has so far declined to take up similar legislation — and the president would almost certainly veto it.

Still, the measure amounted to a public rebuke, signaling pushback from some Republican constituencies against the president’s broad usage of tariff powers.
