The Department of Homeland Security acts unlawfully when it deports immigrants to a country other than their country of origin without giving them an opportunity to make a fear-based objection, a proposed class action filed in federal court says.
The case comes as President Donald Trump asserts his authority over immigration. Recently his administration deported plane-loads of Venezuelans in what a judge called a failure to obey an order and ordered refugee resettlement programs to be defunded. He also has challenged the constitutional doctrine of birthright citizenship and invoked the Alien Enemies Act to deport alleged gang members. ...
