Investors Unfazed by Trump’s 100% Semiconductor Tariff Threat

US President Donald Trump’s threat to impose a 100% tariff on chip imports left analysts puzzled and shares little changed as the industry tried to work out which companies that make and design semiconductors could be hit.

Trump said in a meeting at the Oval Office this week that the tariff would apply to companies unless they had “committed to build” in the US. He named Apple Inc., which had just announced a new $100 billion domestic manufacturing plan, as an example.
